What Your Favorite Color Means - Part Two

As we discussed last time, color surrounds us. Today we will continue with some additional colors and their impact on our emotions and perceptions.

Let's talk about YELLOW - the color of warmth and sunshine. Some people see yellow as a symbol of hope. Who can forget the yellow ribbon around the old oak tree?!  Yellow can also evoke clarity and optimism and can increase mental activity. Black with yellow is one of the clearest combos to read.  However, yellow has an alter ego!  it can mean cowardice or deceit. Believe it or not, men will perceive this color as childish and babies will cry more in a yellow room!

ORANGE is a mixture of the strength of red and the warmth of yellow. It can be associated with the heat of summer and the changing colors of autumn.  The color orange can make you feel hungry and is thought to send more oxygen to the brain! It is an action color. This combination color also seems to create a sense of assurance and seems to activate socialization. It is a fun color - a bit flamboyant.  Orange can give any room a punch of color - a Wowza moment.

PINK, my personal signature color! It evokes playfulness, feminism, sweetness, and charm. It is a color of friendship and harmony. Pink is the lovely side of the color red!  While red is heat and passion, pink is charm and romance.  Think about the word pink and what that means. “ in the pink” means feeling well or “ tickled pink” means enjoying something . Overall all shades of PINK evoke a cheer and a sense of harmony.

BLACK is the color of power and sophistication. Black is an incredibly strong and bold color. It is a daring design move. Think of painted black trim, black dining walls - scary or breathtaking?!?  It is the color of mystery and elegance. It can be the symbol of grief but can also be sexy. The color black can evoke the positive or the negative. Just like when you wear black it makes one look thinner it also makes a room look smaller.   I believe every room should have a touch of black!

This may help you understand why certain colors appeal to you and how we can help you use these colors in your design.
